Scholarship Recipients

Jose Jose, as an American Latino, was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He graduated from Marlton School of the Deaf in Los Angeles where had the pleasure to represent Marlton as a Class of 2014 valedictorian with a 3.725 GPA. He enjoyed a broad high school experience as evidenced by his involvement in a wide variety of leadership, interscholastic, and extracurricular activities such as Cross Country, Varsity Boys' Basketball and Volleyball, and Drama Club. He was captain of the academic decathlon team and participated in the Gallaudet Academic Bowl Competition, both regionals and nationals, at Gallaudet University. He was also in student body government for three years.

Since graduating, He loves engaging his passion with technology, in which he explores the innovations that can contribute to helping the Deaf community. He writes that he has "a high expectation of himself" and so he lives by the motto, "Impossible is Nothing."

Jose earned an associate degree with high honors (Summa Cum Laude) in Web and Mobile Computing (WMC) at the Rochester Institute of Technology. He's also involved in the Next Big Idea, an annual innovation competition at National Technical Institute for the Deaf where he and his team are working on the 'VIGN' (shortcut for 'Video Sign') that would provide entertainment of the best digital shorts, series, and documentaries from famous video content creators.

He did a summer undergraduate internship at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. He also worked as a programmer on a research project studying turbulent flows, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF).
